House Bill 803 - Permit Exemption

Thu, Sep 10

House Bill 803 - Permit Exemption Beginning July 1, 2026, certain residential work valued less than $7,500.00 may qualify for an exemption from building permit requirements for owners of single-family dwellings, or their contractors. The exemption does not apply to: Electrical, gas, plumbing, pool barriers, structural or mechanical Projects located partially or entirely within a flood hazard area Projects that are divided into smaller sections to avoid permitting requirements The House Bill removes the permit requirements for a small set of non-trade home projects, which the Village of Wellington has never required a permit for. If you believe that your home project qualifies for the exemption you must apply for it. Currently, there is no charge for the exemption application, but if we determine that you will need a permit for the proposed work, you will need to apply for a permit.
