In 1996, the City Commission adopted a Historic Preservation ordinance to protect the City's historic built environment through a design review process overseen by the volunteer Historic Resources Preservation Board. Since adoption, Lake Worth Beach has designated six local historic districts and four individually significant structures, with several recognized by the National Register of Historic Places. New Zoning Review Process Beginning July 1, 2026 Recent changes to Florida law (HB 803) mean that some projects may no longer require a building permit.
